ABOUT
A CREATIVE SANCTUARY FOR MAKING, PRESENCE AND BEAUTY
Hermitage Saint Esprit is a French‑provincial styled artisan atelier devoted to slow, soulful creation. Set within a quiet chapel in the Byron Bay hinterland. Its a place where time softens, hands work gently, and making becomes ceremony.
Here, leathercraft is not rushed or transactional. It is guided, intentional, and deeply human — an invitation to step out of the everyday and create something meaningful with your own hands.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
At Hermitage Saint Esprit, we believe:
-
Craft is a form of presence
-
Beauty lives in patience and detail
-
Making something by hand can be quietly transformative
Each workshop is designed as a shared ritual — small groups, natural light, thoughtful guidance, and a space to breathe.

THE ARTIST BEHIND THE ATELIER
Hermitage Saint Esprit is founded by Amanda Coutts — an artist and leather artisan shaped by a lifetime of creative wandering. From Brisbane childhoods and Port Fairy tides, to Parisian light and Italian cathedrals, her work carries a deep reverence for craft, place and story.
Amanda’s teaching is calm, generous and intuitive. You are guided carefully, but never hurried — supported to create something that feels entirely your own
